KAMAMATSURI
Kutani Choemon Kiln Festival
The 19th "KAMA MATSURI"
In the fresh, fragrant days of May, we at the Kutani ware kiln, Kutani Choemon,
offer prayers to the kiln fire—the very heart of our craft—and hold our annual “Kama Matsuri” (Kiln Festival).
At the same time, we invite everyone to step into our workshop to experience the traditional craftsmanship behind our work through a variety of special programs.
During the festival, we open the entire production site where Kutani ware is created, offering factory tours, as well as hands-on introductory experiences such as “Choemon Nyumon,” where you can learn directly from painters and potters. In addition to our standard products, we will hold special sales of “Tamasaka” items—unique pieces that inevitably arise during the production process—as well as limited-edition festival items. There will also be food and drink tents hosted by wonderful vendors, and for those unable to visit in person, an online shop will be available.
We hope you will enjoy these four special days immersed in the culture of the kiln.
